Seawall at Twilight by Pius

Seawall at Twilight

Pius · 2026 · Acrylic on canvas

About the Work

Seawall at Twilight is the collection's nocturne, a hush of deep blue settling over the city's famous waterfront path. Strollers move in silhouette along the seawall, sailboats and a small ferry glide across water streaked with the gold of reflected light, and the downtown skyline glitters beneath a 'Vancouver 2026' banner and a hanging '20 26' standard at the right. Strokes of warm amber flicker through the dark like embers.

After the roar of the stadium scenes, Pius offers stillness. The painting trades crowds for solitude, letting a few quiet figures carry the mood of a city winding down after a long, luminous day. The heavy impasto, catching real gallery light, makes the night itself seem to breathe.

Process & Technique

Pius paints dark to light, laying a deep indigo ground and then striking warm highlights of gold and white over it with the knife so the city lights sit physically proud of the night. Reflections are dragged downward in broken vertical strokes, and the foreground figures are kept as simple dark masses, their weight balancing the glitter of the far shore.
